Hello Readers! Now, I know I’m not a lone this month in looking for ways to really save some money, especially after the holidays. It’s tough to save money and still provide great options for my family, especially for our table. Now, it took me a long time to find information on what would be on sale for each month, and when I did it was incomplete or short for each month. I found a lot of lists, but they all differed in what they included in their lists. So, I comprised my own list based on what I found, and I’m going to share it with you for the month of January.
Let’s start off our purchases with the produce you can find this month. This is a tough one, because most of the produce we consume is grown in warmer months. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still find fresh produce and organic options, if you choose them. For the month of January, you can expect to find the following fruits and vegetables at your local grocer:
While this is a thin list, this still provides you with some great produce options. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, or if what you want isn’t available in the produce section, always turn to the frozen foods section of your store to find those options. Almost every produce option in the frozen area was packaged at peak times, so the nutrients are fresher than if found in the canned foods section of your store. And you can typically avoid the higher levels of sodium that are found in canned foods for preservation purposes.
Now, aside from these produce options to find this month, there are other sales occurring this month that can help you save money. Below are the food options on sale:
- Snack foods (for the Superbowl, so toward the end of the month)
- Oats, Steel Cut, Old Fashioned, and Instant (National Oatmeal Month)
- Diet aids like shakes and powders (Resolutions)
And as for other goods that you can find on sale this month, see this list below:
- Holiday Decor (Clearance sales)
- Weight Scales
- Workout gear
- Diet Cookbooks
- Organization items
- China (as in dishes)
- Winter apparel
- Furniture collections (2016’s styles and trends)
- Small appliances
A lot of stores and companies will be exploiting the common resolutions formed by the majority of society, which focuses on weight loss, and you can easily score on these items. Are you in desperate need of new workout shoes? Is your gym bag just a little funky? This is the month to replace them!
This is also the month to buy any organization items. Planners, calendars, office containers, storage bins, and the like. This is the time to get them. Hopefully, you haven’t chosen to “get organized” for your resolution. If you have, then I would advise against buying any organizational tools and supplies until after you make progress on your resolution and find out what you really need. If you have already reached that point, I think you can get your supplies.
Furniture collections from 2016 are also on sale right now. In fact, they will be on clearance for most of this month. Most furniture dealers are trying to clear out the old collections to make way for the new ones. So, if you want new furniture think about getting them now. If you can’t afford it, start saving now to buy a new set next January.
And speaking of saving to afford something, our family is starting a new goal this month. Every payday, I plan to purchase a gift card for $50 from the store, either in the form of a specific store card for places like Target or a Visa gift card. We will save these cards and then use them next holiday season to purchase our gifts. Our first payday will be this Friday, so I will be purchasing the first card during our grocery shopping trip that follows on Sunday. And so, this is the one goal I have with regard to our finances for this year.
So, hopefully this post has helped you find some great deals on your needs and groceries for this month. Stay tuned for more money saving tips to come!
Until next time,
